This course is broken down into five (5) modules namely: 1. Introduction to Geospatial Concepts: Data, Technology and Mapping; 2. Interactive Community Mapping – Tools and Techniques; 3. Module 3: Remote Mapping in OpenStreetMap; 4. Visualizing Geospatial Data (optional); 5. Supporting Decision-Making with OSM Applications

This course enables students to understand the value of open geospatial data, and prepares them to participate in the Open Cities Mapping project in Jamaica

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  1. Understand what is geospatial data from a use case and technical view
  2. Understand Mapping concepts
  3. Collect Geospatial data using mobile devices
  4. Demonstrate techniques for visualizing Geospatial Data
  5. Apply the learned techniques to Interactive Community Mapping

Person 18 and above with an interest in open geospatial data, who will be participating in the Open Cities Mapping project in Jamaica

Participants should have completed the CSOD Basic digital skills Program, or equivalent digital skills training

This course is broken down into five (5) modules, namely:

  • Module 1 – Introduction to Geospatial Concepts: Data, Technology and Mapping: introduces students to geospatial data and the use of geospatial data in economical, recreational or social cases
  • Module 2 – Interactive Community Mapping – Tools & Techniques: introduces students to Interactive Community Mapping and the process for developing community mapping projects
  • Module 3 – Remote Mapping in OpenStreetMap: introduces students to OpenStreetMap tools and GIS software to create maps
  • Module 4 – Visualizing Geospatial Data using maps (optional): introduces students to the use of maps as a visualization tool to create a story
  • Module 5 – Supporting Decision-Making with OSM Applications: introduces students to mapping concepts and OpenStreetMap
