This course is broken down into five (5) modules namely: 1. Understanding the Business value of Geospatial data; 2. Geospatial and mapping concepts; 3. Interactive Community Mapping – Tools & Techniques; 4. Visualizing Geospatial Data; 5. Preparing your GeoData – Update OpenStreetMap
This course enables students to understand the value of open geospatial data, its use and how it can help to create impactful projects
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand what is geospatial data from a use case and technical view
- Understand Mapping concepts
- Collect Geospatial data using mobile devices
- Upload and Edit Geospatial data in Openstreetmap
- Demonstrate techniques for visualizing Geospatial Data
- Apply the learned techniques to Interactive Community Mapping
- Create a map using a GIS software
Who is this course for?
Person 18 and above with an interest in open geospatial data
What do I need to know?
Participants should have completed the CSOD Basic digital skills Program, or equivalent digital skills training
Structure of the Course
This course is broken down into five (5) modules, namely:
- Module 1 – Understanding the value of Geospatial data: introduces students to geospatial data and the use of geospatial data in economical, recreational or social cases
- Module 2 – Geospatial and Mapping Concepts: introduces students to mapping concepts and OpenStreetMap
- Module 3 – Creating your Geodata – Contributing to OpenStreetMap: introduces students to OpenStreetMap tools and GIS software to create maps
- Module 4 – Interactive Community Mapping – Tools & Techniques: introduces students to Interactive Community Mapping and the process for developing community mapping projects
- Module 5 – Visualizing Geospatial Data using maps: introduces students to the use of maps as a visualization tool to create a story
