When these steps have been completed, you will be moved into your cohort and matched with a facilitator, who will be your primary point of contact for the duration of the programme.

Digital Profile: Self-Diagnostic Survey II

Digital competencies refer to the ability to use digital technology, communications tools and/or networks to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and pass on information ethically and legally in order to participate to the full in the Information and Knowledge Society. Use this tool to assess your own competencies.

INTRODUCTORY CURRICULUM

These courses comprise the CSOD Introductory Curriculum and are geared at getting students ready for entry-level digital and data-focused employment.

Foundations of Being Digital

This course equips participants with the essential baseline competencies for a skills profile referred to as “Digital Learner”. Completion will equip the participant with skills to effectively use the internet, as well as navigate the remainder of the courses in this program.

Productivity Tools for Digital Workers

Techniques learned range from “touch-typing” skills to basic wordprocessing and spreadsheet use for creating structured and formatted business content. Students also learn to use digital communication and collaboration tools for common business activities such as time and task management

Social Media and Web Applications

Practical techniques are learned to install, configure and use the primary social media platforms. Students also learn about the benefits and disadvantages of social media, and are introduced to practical tips for gaining employment through social media.

Data Fundamentals

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of data and information, and basic toolkits for collecting, organizing and applying data effectively. Practical techniques are learned to process, manipulate and visualize data using spreadsheets.

CAPSTONE: Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

Digital Literacy includes transversal skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. This Capstone course provides an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge, digital skill-set and tools gained from the previous four courses to real-word business scenarios.

LEVEL II CURRICULUM

These courses comprise the CSOD Level II Curriculum and are designed to emphasize the business value potential of data. Students who complete these courses refine their skills for working with data and are well-positioned to support their organizations in exploiting those value opportunities

Geospatial Data Analysis: Tools and Techniques

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of geospatial data, mapping concepts and applications. Practical techniques are learned to collect, process and visualize location-based data using low-cost devices and free GIS tools such as Openstreetmap, and applying these techniques to Interactive Community Mapping and other business applications.

Data Preparation

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of Data Preparation and basic toolkits for collecting, organizing and applying data effectively. Practical techniques are learned to process, manipulate and visualize data using spreadsheets.

Art and Science of Data Visualization

Data Visualization is presented in the context of how people process information as this is important for ensuring that the Visualization is built for effective communication. Learners will appreciate the strengths of Data Visualization as a presentation technique especially for large data sets

Internship - Treasure Beach Smart Community

This internship program provides an opportunity for students to reinforce and apply the knowledge and skills gained from the CSOD Level I courses to participate in, and support the Treasure Beach “Smart Community” project. Students will also be able to identify potential value-creating opportunities from working with geospatial data.

CAPSTONE: Becoming a Data Entrepreneur

There is a lot of economic value in GeoServices and the GeoData that supports it. This Capstone course provides an opportunity for students to reinforce and apply the knowledge and skills gained from the previous three courses to real-word business prospects for creating social and/or economic value from Geospatial Data.
