Getting Started with Instagram

Instagram is an online photo sharing service. It allows you to apply different types of photo filters to your pictures with a single click, then share them with others. While this is a rather basic service, Instagram’s simplicity has helped it gain widespread popularity.

Installing Instagram on your Android Device

  1. Open Google Play . (Tap its icon located on the home screen to open Google Play Store.) 
  2.  Search for “Instagram” in the search    bar.
  3.  Access the app’s information page.
  4.  Tap on the Install button.

Creating an Instagram account

After downloading the Instagram app, you’ll need to create an account. You can use your email address, phone number, or an existing Facebook account to do so.

Common Instagram Terms

If you’re new to Instagram, there are a lot of terms and phrases that may seem a little confusing at first. Reviewing some of the most commonly used terms will give you a better understanding of how Instagram works and what to expect as you get started.

  • Feed: Whenever you or the people you follow post a photo, it will appear in your feed. from your feed you are able to like and comment on these posts.
  • Filter: When posting photos instagram gives you the option of “applying filters”. Filters  give your photos a unique or artistic look.
  • Posts: The photos and videos you share on Instagram are called posts.
  • Stories:Photos and videos that are only available for 24 hours after they’re posted.
  • Like:Showing your friends that you enjoyed what they shared on Instagram

Instagram Mobile App Interface

Instagram is primarily used through its mobile application, which makes it easy to connect on the go and you can do just about everything you can do in the web version of Instagram: post photos, videos and even live stories, check out the posts of someone you are following or chat with them using the messages.

  • At the bottom of the application you will see a list of different icons running across the screen this is your Menu.
  • Your Home Screen, it is represented by a house icon this is where your Feed is located, here you will be able to see the posts of those you follow as well as view their stories  .
  • The Discovery function is represented by a magnifying glass; here, you will see some of the more trending topics and stories that are on Instagram currently. You may also search by using the search bar at the top.
  • The Post function is represented by an icon with a “+” in it, it is here that you will upload your photos and videos for your followers to view and to be added to your profile.
  • The notifications function is represented by a heart icon, it is here that you will be notified as to likes and comments on your posts, and any mentions of you
